Youth commits suicide


A 19-year-old youth, Abu Parkash, a resident of Faizpura, committed suicide by hanging himself in his house. He was a student of IELTS. The police were yet to ascertain the cause behind him ending his life. The Civil Lines police have initiated action and sent the body for a postmortem examination. The police authorities said that investigations were under progress. Parkash, father of the deceased, said that his son was preparing for the IELTS. Last evening, he returned from his class and rushed to his room. He said when the family did not notice any movements, they went to his room. He said the room was bolted from inside so it was broken. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead. TNS

Unidentified body found

An unidentified person was found dead near the Ravi river near Chaharpur village in Ajnala here on Thursday. Vipin Kumar, SHO, Ramdass police station, said the deceased appears to be in his fifties. He said passers by informed the police about the body. The police team reached the spot and found no injury marks on the body. He said though the police circulated the message and tried to identify him, but couldn’t achieve success. The body has been kept for identification at the Ajnala Civil Hospital. TNS

Four held for theft

The city police have arrested four persons in separate instances for thefts and stealing vehicles. They have been identified as Love and Hritik of Shaheed Udham Singh Colony. They were arrested with a stolen scooter without registration plate. Meanwhile, Satnam Singh of Majitha Road and Sohan Singh of Indra Colony were held with internet cables weighing around 15 kg.  Separate cases under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC have been registered. One arrested for illegal mining

The Lopoke police have arrested Sarvan Singh of Kot Sidhu village for illegal sand mining. He was arrested near Bhilowal village during police patrolling. The police said they were patrolling the Preet Nagar, Chak Mishri, Bhilowal and Bhangwa villages when they intercepted Sarvan coming on a sand laden tractor-trailer from Chuchakwal village. Interrogation revealed that he had stolen the sand from sand mines in Kot Sidhu village and was going to Amritsar to sell it. TNS
