Woman’s purse snatched


Amritsar: Two unknown persons snatched the purse of a local resident, Sunita, here on Monday. She stated to the police that she was returning home and had reached near the Beri Gate petrol pump when the accused snatched her purse, containing Rs 10,000 in cash and a mobile phone besides other belongings. Narcotics seized

The city police arrested four persons in two separate instances for allegedly possessing contraband here on Monday. Sunil Kumar of the Gilwali gate and Vishal of Mishra Singh Colony were held with 3 gm of smack while Sarabjit Singh of Ranjhe Di Gali and Sahib Singh of Ram Bagh were arrested with 5 gm of heroin. Separate cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against them. TNS

Cell phone shop burgled

Unscrupulous elements burgled a mobile shop in the Chowk Farid area here on Sunday night. The accused also took away LEDs and mobile phones of different brands. Gurinder Singh, the complainant, said he had closed the shop and on Monday morning when his brother went to the shop, he found the iron grill broken and LEDs and cell phones stolen. A case has been registered in this regard. TNS

Guest lecture on research

Amritsar: The Postgraduate Department of Mathematics of DAV College organised a guest lecture on “Research methodology and career in research” on the college premises on Tuesday. Dr Amanpreet Singh, head of the PG Department of Mathematics, SGTB College, Anandpur Sahib, was the keynote speaker during the event. Students from graduation and postgraduation classes of the Mathematics Department attended the lecture. TNS

Competition at Khalsa College

Amritsar: A five-day Carpe-Diem Technical Competition-cum-Training Programme on brand management and soft skills began at Khalsa College here on Tuesday.
