Woman raped near Ajnala in Amritsar


Amritsar: A 35-year-old woman was raped at Chak Dogran village near Ajanala here. The accused has been identified as Binder Singh, a resident of Chak Dogaran village. In a complaint to the police, the victim said that she had gone to the field around 7 pm to bring a fodder for cattle. The woman said she was chopping the fodder when Binder Singh came and raped her. On the basis of a complaint filed by the victim, the Ajanala Police have registered a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused. The police said no arrest had been made so far. TNS

Tree plantation drive in schools on August 5

Amritsar: The district education department has asked all private and government schools to conduct a tree plantation drive on their respective campus on August 5. The education department has asked the schools to plant at least ten saplings on their premises. The decision to plant saplings has been taken to increase the green cover. TNS

DAV College prof awarded

Amritsar: The photograph sent by city resident Sandeep Sharma, who is a professor at DAV College here, has been declared the best entry award of the competition organised by the German embassy in New Delhi recently. The German embassy had asked all of them who visited the country to submit historic and nature-based photographs to the embassy. Sandeep Sharma had clicked a photograph of a mountain site, which bagged the best entry award. TNS
