Verification of pensioners

Amritsar: The Deputy Commissioner has asked the Joint Commissioners and SDMs to verify pension beneficiaries in urban areas and rural areas, respectively. The DC said employees of the state government would visit each of the beneficiaries and get a form filled for the verification. He said the pension would directly be disbursed in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. He said the social security department does not have details of the accounts of around 30,000 beneficiaries in the district. TNS
Pension for acid attack victims 
The district administration has sought applications from acid attack victims in the state so that the monthly pension of Rs 8,000 could be disbursed to them as per the announcement of the state government. The applicants are required to furnish a disability certificate, a copy of the FIR, proof of residence and bank details with the social security department. Department officials said the cases of all victims would be reviewed by a district-level committee. In case, the claim by the applicant is rejected, the victim would be eligible to file an appeal within 15 days. TNS

DC reviews sewerage works

The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress of the ongoing sewerage work in various areas here on Friday. The DC also instructed the officials to make available an alternative route to the residents on the Ram Tirath road. He also instructed the officials to expedite the work on the ongoing sewerage projects besides focusing on desilting of the existing lines. Officials of the department said an alternative route for Ram Tirath residents was from the Dera of Baba Darshan Singh to Dhaul Kalan village. TNS

Drive for enrolling voters

The District Administration is starting its drive to enrol young voters from Saturday. The drive would continue till July 31. Those who have attained the age of 18 years and are not registered as voter are eligible to participate in the drive. A training session for the field staff was also conducted on Friday. The applicants are required to submit their forms with booth-level officials. Special camps for enrolment will be conducted on July 9 and July 23. TNS
Foundation day of Akal Takht
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced to hold a religious function on July 2 to celebrate the foundation day of Akal Takht. SGPC secretary Avtar Singh said the ‘bhog’ of ‘akand path’ would be held at 8:30 am after which ‘kirtan’ to be be performed by ‘ragis’. Later, dhadis and kavishars would recite ballads. An SGPC official said a large number of devotees would attend the function. TNS
