Amritsar, May 24
An American citizen was arrested from the Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport here last evening after five cartridges of .38 bore were recovered from his baggage during checking.
The US resident was identified as George Danid Gilbert of 618, Ballard RD Fuquay, New Carolina. The accused was produced in a local court here today which sentenced him to 14 days’ judicial custody.
An official at the airport police station said, on condition of anonymity, “The accused has in his statement said that as they are free to carry ammunition in the US, he might have forgot to remove it from his bag.”
Gilbert had landed at Delhi airport on May 21 after which he had travelled to cities like Chandigarh and Ludhiana. He was about to board a flight to New Delhi when the cartridges were recovered from his bag in a screening by the CISF. After airport and customs officials, the CISF is the last one to screen luggage at the airport.
In another instance at the Majitha police station, the police has registered a case against three unknown persons for injuring a Sohia village resident with a gunshot. The complainant in this regard, Manjit Kaur, said that she was coming to her home with her brother, Balkar Singh, when three persons in a car halted near them. She alleged that the person sitting in the front seat fired at her.
Manjit Kaur was hit in the side of her neck. Police officials stated that they were trying to identify the accused on the basis of their appearance as reported by the victim and her brother.
