Two booked for fraud

The Sadar police have booked two persons for fraud and criminal conspiracy. The accused have been identified as Naresh Kumar of Basant Avenue and Shamsher Singh, a property dealer and a resident of the Tarn Taran road. They are on the run.
Complainant Harjit Singh said he had purchased a house in the posh Basant Avenue area from Naresh Kumar for Rs 47 lakh. He said he gave Rs 15 lakh in advance to him in presence of Shamsher Singh in January 2014. He alleged July 21, 2014 was scheduled for the land registration, but the seller didn’t turn up. They started dilly-dallying for transferring the property on his name. Harjit said they accused didn’t turn up at the sub-registrar office even after being summoned.
When Harjit grew suspicious, he enquired and came to know that Naresh had mortgaged the house to take a loan of Rs 18 lakh from a bank. The police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC against them. — TNS
