Twins’ memorable experience


Amritsar: Rahul Sharma and Rajan Sharma, twins from Amritsar who participated in the Zee Tv reality show — India’s Best Judwaah, shared their experiences in the city on Wednesday. They participated in the show with 11 pair of contestants. The show talks about relationship between identical twins and their bonding. Speaking at a press meet, Rahul said, “It was an amazing experience. We tried to present our culture as much as possible.” TNS

Woman held for abduction

The police arrested a child lifter and recovered a two-year-old girl here yesterday. The accused woman, Reshma Kataar of Marji Mohalla, Chamrang road, had abducted the girl from Golden Temple. Girl’s mother, in her complaint to the Galiara police post, had stated that she along with her family went to Golden Temple when her daughter Pallavi was abducted. The girl was taken away when the complainant was queued up at Jora Ghar. When she raised the alarm, SGPC employees and devotees started searching for the girl. Meanwhile, they found the accused trying to escape with Pallavi. She was handed over to the police. A case has been registered under Section 363-A of the IPC. TNS

Farmers hold protest

Members of the All India Kisan Sabha staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office on Wednesday. Darbara Singh Lopoke, president of district unit of the sabha, said, “The protest was held as part of the nationwide call given by the organisation.” He said agricultural debt ws the biggest problem being faced by agrarian society in the country. The sabha also demanded that the fertilisers and machinery used by farmers should be exempted from the GST. They also demanded that diesel should be brought under the ambit of the GST as it would help in reducing the tax from around 57 per cent in the state to 28 percent.
Two booked for rape attempt
The police booked two men rape attempt at Bhindi Saidan village on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Shera and Sahbo, residents of Nain village.  They also tried to kill the 18-year-old victim. The complainant said she was alone at her home as her parents had were in the fields. The accused turned up and Shera allegedly tried to rape her while Shabo tried to put diesel to set her afire.  The police have registered a case against them. No arrest has been made. TNS

Friendship Day celebrated

Amritsar: The special children of Ibadat  School have celebrated the Friendship Day in a unique way. They brought friendship bands for their instructors and friends. Students urged other children to befriend them. Special children celebrated the day by tying bands on the hands of their teachers. Mohit Kapoor, president, Ibadat School, said, “The idea is to promote friendship amongst these kids. Other children should also come forward.” TNS

BJYM holds meeting

Ahead of Poojam Mahajan’s visit, head of the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), to the city on August 11, local leaders of the organisation held a meeting here today. BJYM state president Shivbir Singh Rajan said Mahajan would meet members at various places in the city and would also visit Golden Temple, Durgiana Temple and Jallianwala Bagh. He said Mahajan would address members at the BJP office after interacting with students of Global institute. Tns

NCC’s plantation drive

Ahead of Independence Day, a tree plantation drive was conducted on the premises of DAV International School by the NCC Cadets under the leadership of commanding officer, 11 PB Battalion Col Ashwani Kumar and Principal Anjana Gupta. Principal Anjana Gupta, while addressing the students, highlighted the crucial role of trees in the survival of the planet. She motivated students to plant more and more number of trees. TNS
Khalsa College to hold contests
A number of cultural competitions will be held at Khalsa College on Independence Day. These events are being held under the Ministry of Urban Development. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, at a meeting, said, “A number of events will be held at the college post 3 pm. Painting, poster making, Rangoli and other events showcasing the heritage shall be held.” TNS

Book launched

Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School,  has unveiled his anthology of poems titled ‘Love, Lies, Life’. Achievements of his former students inspired him to come up with his book. — TNS
