Three robbers held in Amritsar

The Sultanwind police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers with the arrest of three persons. Two of their accomplices are yet to be arrested.
The accused have been identified as Jobanjit Singh, a resident of Nawa Pind, Manmeet Singh alias Gagan of Dhottian village in Tarn Taran and Shankar of Baba Sant Singh Nagar. Two others, Roshi Menia of Kathunangal and Jhota Jandiala, managed to escape. Raids were on to nab them, the police said.
Neeraj Kumar, SHO, Sultanwind police station, said a country-made pistol of 7.62 mm and two sharp-edged weapons were recovered from their possession. The police produced them before the court and managed to take them on remand for further interrogation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had committed robberies in Tarn Taran and Amritsar rural areas. “Their interrogation was on and we expect to crack several robbery cases,” he said.
The police had received a tip-off that the accused were hiding near Sultanwind canal and planning a robbery. A police party was immediately despatched to the spot from where the accused were arrested.
