Three arrested for snatchings, thefts; 13 vehicles recovered in Amritsar

The city police today claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers and vehicle lifters, recovering 13 vehicles and four mobile phones.The accused have been identified as Sukhraj Singh alias Raju of Kamboh village, Baljit Singh alias Bobbi and Jaimal Singh of Chohla village, Ferozepur. One of their accomplices is absconding. Sukhraj is said to be the kingpin of the gang.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations) Jagmohan Singh said the CIA staff had received a tip-off about the accused involved in snatchings and stealing vehicles from different parts of the city. The informer revealed that the suspects were coming from Gumtala road bypass side in a Maruti car. A naka (checkpoint) was established on the road where the accused were stopped.Their interrogation led to the seizure of nine scooters, three motorcycles, a Maruti car and four mobile phones. The DCP said the court would be urged to send the accused on police remand for further interrogation.According to the DCP, they used to sell the stolen vehicles after forging documents.He said the accused would be brought on police remand for further investigation for arresting those who helped them in getting fake documents made.Meanwhile, the police nabbed six vehicle lifters in separate instances and recovered three motorcycle without number plates from their possession. The Sultanwind police arrested Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and his accomplice Charanjit Singh, both residents of Jandiala Guru, and recovered a Splendor motorcycle. Similarly, Nirmal Singh of Jhabal and Deepak Kumar of Noordi village in Tarn Taran were held with a bike. They used to sell the stolen vehicles after forging documents. In another incident, the Civil lines police nabbed Gurbaz Singh alias Dilbagh Singh and Manjit Singh of Bhindi Saida area with a stolen motorcycle.
