The Amritsar rural police have arrested three persons and booked another in separate cases of illegal sand mining.
Those arrested were identified as Jagbir Singh, Major Singh and Kanwaljit Singh, all residents of Bhindi Aulakh village. According to information, they were intercepted by officials of the Mining Department near Ram Tirath Road. They were travelling on a sand-laden tractor-trailer. Bhupinder Singh, mining officer, said the suspects could not produce any documents regarding digging or ferrying the sand.
In another case, the police booked Harchand Singh of Talla village, falling under the Bhindi Saida police station. Officials of the Mining Department intercepted him near the Khasa village bus stop. Harchand fled from the scene, leaving his tractor-trailer behind.
The officials handed over the vehicles to the police which registered separate cases under Section 21 of the Mining Act and Section 379 of the IPC against them.
