Unidentified robbers snatched Rs 1.25 lakh from a Hyundai showroom owner when he was returning home on foot after attending the Shagun ceremony of his friend. The looters also took away his two mobile phones and other important documents from his wallet.
The victim, identified as Gaurav Sharma, a resident of Anand Avenue, said he along with his family had gone to a private marriage resort for attending the Shagun ceremony of his friend. At around 11.30 pm, he sent his family back home in his car.
He said, at around 1 am, when he started for his home on foot and reached near a petrol pump, two motorcycle-borne persons, armed with sharp-edged weapons, surrounded him.
They asked him to hand over everything he had; otherwise they would kill him. They took away Rs 1.25 lakh and two mobile phones and his wallet containing the RC of his Innova car, plastic money and identity cards.
Malkit Singh, investigation officer, said a probe was on and a case under Section 379-B, IPC, had been registered in this connection.
Meanwhile, two snatchers, identified as Monu alias Kaka and Amandeeep Singh of the Ekta Nagar area, were caught by the people when they were trying to escape after snatching a cell phone from a local resident, Shaalu. Shaalu said she worked in a beauty parlour in the Putlighar area.
She was going to her aunt’s house in Ram Nagar Colony in the Islamabad area on foot when two youths on a scooter snatched her mobile phone.
She raised the alarm following which the onlookers caught them. They were later handed over to the police. The police recovered the mobile phone and impounded the scooter.
A case has been registered under Section 379-B, IPC, in this connection.
