The faulty design of the new building of Bhai Sahib Singh Satellite Hospital at Fatahpur village has delayed the shifting of the hospital staff and initiation of medical services for another three months.
Residents of Fatahpur village and its adjoining villages on the outskirts of the city have failed to get medical services rendered by the satellite hospital ever since its old building was demolished in 2014 to clear the land for the construction of Central Jail.
Officials of the Health Department said the new building constructed by the PWD does not have any X-ray room. The officials stated that the area for dispensary was too small and it would not be practically useful for the hospital.
For the last around two-and-a-half years, the staff of the satellite hospital has been working at PHC Dhab Khatika in the city.
Residents of Fatahpur village and its adjoining villages are complaining of a lack of medical services.
The Health Department has set up five satellite hospitals on the periphery of the city. The aim of these hospitals is to provide medical services to those living in rural areas so that they don’t need to go to city hospitals.
However, residents of the villages have to travel through traffic jams to visit the satellite hospital at Dhab Khatika as it is situated inside the walled city.
The satellite hospitals mainly cater to the medical needs of pregnant women and newly born children. These hospitals are also very helpful in promoting institutionalised child deliveries.
Civil Surgeon Dr Pradeep Chawla said, “A few faults were noted in the design and officials of the PWD were duly informed about these. We have been told that the building would be ready in three months after making the required changes.”
He said the medical staff would be deputed at the Fatahpur Satellite Hospital as soon as the PWD hands over the building to them.
