Residents of Katra Moti Ram and students of Arya School opposed the construction of a garbage dump in a park near the school here today. They forced employees of the Municipal Corporation (MC) to stop the work.
The health wing of the MC had initiated the construction of the garbage dump near Khoo Bamba Wala. They had reserved a site in the park and started dumping the garbage. When MC workers started the work, residents and students stood in front of a ditch machine and forced the MC employees to go back.
After facing resistance, MC employees delivered a lecture to the assembled residents and children to keep the area neat and clean.
Ram Chawla, councillor of Ward No. 49, said, “Katra Moti Ram is a residential area. A large number of students study at Arya School. The garbage dump will be a serious threat to the health of students and residents. We don’t oppose the construction of the dump, but the MC can’t ruin the green area of the park”.
The residents said door-to-door garbage collection drive should be started. “The streets in the area are quite narrow and MC should introduce scooters to collect the garbage from these streets,” said Rajkumar, a resident of the area.
