Residents will be able to pay their water and sewerage bills online soon. MC officials have said the civic body has hired a private firm so that the residents can pay their bills online. The officials said the facility would get operational within two months.
The residents will get some relief in the assessment and payment of taxes, including property taxes and water sewerage bills, with this move. In the absence of any online provision to pay the bills, the residents have to visit the MC zonal offices for depositing their bills.
The residents face inconvenience as they have to stand in queues on the last date of bill submission. It was the long pending demand of the residents.
Rajinder Sharma, Superintendent, Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, MC, said, “Residents often ask us to make the bill payment online. Now, we have hired a company for the same. We have been collecting the phone number of all residents, who come here to pay their bills. When we start the portal, we will register their mobile numbers. The users will get their bill and receipt through the text message. The service will start within two months.”
As per the information, the MC has hired a Ludhiana-based private firm for three years. The Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, has been lacking digitisation of records.
The birth and death records of residents in 13 districts are available online. However, the district is failed to digitise the records till date. The applicants receive birth and death certificates after a long delay.
The MC will pay around Rs 1 crore to Icon Software Technology, a Ludhiana-based software company, for providing the facility.
