‘Rally for Rivers’ held in city

Amritsar, September 1

Isha Foundation in collaboration with Voice of Amritsar (VOA), a city-based NGO, organised ‘Rally for Rivers’ here today. The rally is a part of the nationwide rallies being encouraged by spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.

The rally was held to create awareness among residents about the condition of rivers in the country. The campaign talks about efforts to be made in order to save small as well as big rivers. Under the rally, a number of school students were seen standing on the sides of roads holding boards with a message on saving rivers.

“India in general and Punjab in particular is losing rivers because of reckless construction and axing of trees,”said Jasmit Nayyar, convener of Isha Foundation.

“We will be left with no water for our future generations if we don’t wake up to the alarming situation today,” said Neeta Mehra of VOA.

The two-hour rally began at 8 am from Mall Road leading to SSSS Chowk and concluded at Income Tax Chowk. Residents can also contribute to their support to the rally by giving a miss call at 8000980009.

“The VOA has also been taking up plantation drives regularly in the city,” said Rakesh Sharma, founder president of the VOA.
