Queue for senior citizens

Amritsar: Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha has directed all government offices dealing with public to reserve a dedicated queue for senior citizens. He stated this while holding a review meeting of the benefits being extended under the Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act 2007 with District Social Welfare Officer Narinder Singh Pannu. He also directed to increase the number of beds for aged patients in hospitals. The Deputy Commissioner launched an app to share and gather information about domestic helps. He added that the families and the police would remain in touch regarding the details of domestic helps and their antecedents. TNS
Two held for firing in air 
The city police have arrested two persons at Fathegarh Churian Road for opening fire in the air from their terrace. The police recovered a .32-bore revolver and 19 live cartridges. The accused have been identified as Jobanjit Singh, a resident of Kamla Devi Avenue, and Amandeep Singh of Verka. The investigating officer, ASI Gurjit Singh of the Fatehgarh Churian police post, said both the accused had opened fire in the air from their terrace which spread panic among the area residents. Police officials stated that later as the duo were travelling to Amritsar, a police party intercepted and recovered a .32-bore revolver from them. The police also recovered 19 cartridges of .32 bore and four empty shells. A case under Section 336 of the IPC and  Sections 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered. TNS

‘Dry day’ every Friday

Amritsar: The state government has issued directions to all government departments to clean water coolers and surroundings to curb mosquito breeding in government offices. Following the direction, the health wing of the Municipal Corporation has written to all departments to keep their cooler dry on every Friday. Dr Raju Chowan, the municipal health officer, said, “We have advised government officials to observe Friday as ‘dry day’ by cleaning the surroundings and drying the coolers. If they do not make the cooler surface dry, then there is possibility of mosquito breeding.   So, the employees should be careful about their surroundings to curb the mosquito menace”.  As per the instructions, the government employees have to clean open water tanks, refrigerators, flower pots and utensils on every Friday.
