Power supply was disrupted in the Gheo Mandi and Golden Temple areas due to a technical snag in 66 supply line here today. Residents have faced a power cut for more than 12 hours. The residents of Gheo Mandi, Bagh Ramanand, Lakkar Mandi, Cheel Mandi, Bhusanpura, Fuharewala Chowk, Meena Bazaar, Saktri Bagh and areas surrounding Golden Temple faced great inconvenience due to the unannounced power cut. According to information, the substation Gheo Mandi shut down power around 4 am and restored in the afternoon only.
Earlier, in the past some days, the residents witnessed such long power cuts, too. The residents have been demanding from the PSPCL to get uninterrupted power supply in the area.
Harish Kumar, a resident of the Gheo Mandi area, stated that power supply was shut off during the wee hours. “We were expecting that it was temporarily shut off due to the prevailing weather conditions. But the PSPCL did not restore the power till noon. We were deprived of water. The long power cut threw life out of gear”, he said.
Rajinder Singh, a resident, said, “Power cuts have become a routine affair, as the equipment used by the Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) is not appropriate”. He alleged harassment of the common man due to the power cuts. “It was a tough day without power”, said Rajinder.
Hardayal Singh, Junior Engineer, Substation, Gheo Mandi, said, “There was a technical fault due to weather conditions. PSTCL employees have been passing the relays. They also got permission to shut down”.
