A police party that to arrest an accused in a murderous assault case was attacked by him and his relatives late last evening at Chugawan village. The accused managed to slip away from the spot.
Besides the prime accused, Bhupinder Singh, those booked were identified as his brother Manjit Singh, his two sons, Arvinder Singh and Jatinder Singh, and Gagandeep Singh, all residents of Chogwan village.
A case under Sections 353 (assault on a government servant while obstructing from discharging his duty), 186 (obstructing government servant), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 and 34, IPC, has been registered in this connection.
Gurjant Singh, a resident of Karyial village, stated to the police there was a group clash in the village in December 2013. He along with his six accomplices was booked on charges of attempt to murder and firing.
In the same incident, a cross case of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act was registered against Navdeep Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Sarabjit Singh, Gagandeep Singh, Vanish Kumar, Pawan Kumar and Bhupinder Singh. While Navdeep, Vishal, Sarabit and Gagandeep were out on bail, the remaining three accused were never arrested in the case. They were missing since the incident.
He said yesterday, he saw Bhupinder Singh at his house and immediately sounded the police in this regard. ASI Manjit Singh and his team, Gurvinder Singh, Kewal Singh and Baljit Singh, raided his residence. However, the accused tried to flee from the backside, but was caught by the police.
On seeing this, his family members, including Manjit Singh, Arvinder Singh, Jatinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, attacked the police party when he was sitting in the police vehicle and they slipped away from the spot.
Dilbagh Singh, the investigating officer, said the raids were conducted on their suspected hideouts to arrest them.
