Plantation drive conducted in Amritsar


Amritsar: The Voice of Amritsar, a non-government organisation (NGO), planted saplings at the circular road area of the city on Sunday. “Some fully grown trees were recklessly axed for widening the circular road leaving it deserted and barren,” said Neeta Mehra of the NGO. The organisation aims of at making the city greener by conducting tree plantation drives. TNS

Cop assaulted, man held

A head constable was allegedly assaulted by an e-rickshaw driver near Sanglawala Akhara near Golden Temple on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Sanjiv Kumar, a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar on Tarn Taran road. According to information, the complainant, Hardev Singh, head constable, stopped the driver and asked him to take another route as there was a traffic jam near the shrine. The accused had an argument with him. Amid this, he allegedly assaulted the head constable and also tore his uniform, the police said. The accused has been arrested and a case under Sections 186 (obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) of the IPC has been registered against him. Policeman’s bike stolen

A policeman has lodged a complaint regarding theft of his bike. Inspector Rajinder Singh said the motorcycle was parked opposite Sanjh Kendra in the Division E area. A case has been registered and manhunt has been launched to identify the accused. TNS
