In a shocking incident, four unidentified robbers shot a petrol pump manager dead and decamped with Rs 13.41 lakh from his car. The incident occurred at around 6.45 pm at Manawala when the petrol pump manager was coming to the city with the daily sale collection.
The deceased was identified as Inder Sharma, a resident of the Majitha Road area. He was manager of the Reliance Petrol Pump at Manawala. Senior police officials including SSP Amritsar rural Parampal Singh Gandhi reached the spot for investigations.
According to information, Sharma had collected Rs 13.41 lakh from the petrol pump. As he slowed down his car while taking a U-turn for coming back to the city, a Maruti Suzuki Swift car with, its registration number written with a black sketch pen, fired a gun shot and signalled Sharma to stop the car.
However, Sharma tried to escape, pressed the accelerator of his car and turned towards Manawala village. But due to traffic, he collided with roadside vendors. In the meantime, the robbers reached there and broke the windowpane of his car with the help of a brick. They tried to snatch the bag containing the money.
When Sharma resisted their attempt, they fired two gun shots at him which hit his chest and neck. The unknown robbers fled with the cash towards Amritsar. Sharma was rushed to the government hospital at Manawala from where he was referred to Amritsar. He succumbed to his injuries on the way.
SSP Parampal Singh said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the perpetrator of the crime.
