Though the state government initiated free diagnostic facilities at government hospitals last year, people living on the outskirts of the city are still deprived of these facilities. Five satellite hospitals do not have the diagnostic facilities.
Patients from these areas visit hospitals situated in city to avail these facilities. The district health authorities stated that they had sent a proposal to equip these satellite hospitals with auto-analyser machines so that patients can get simple tests such as blood sugar conducted .
Civil Surgeon Dr Pardeep Chawla said, “Soon the satellite hospitals will be equipped with auto-analyser machines. The machines will prove to be a boon for the patients living in rural areas. The patients will get these tests conducted without travelling to hospitals situated in the city.
However, the authorities apathy towards these hospitals has turned these hospitals into mere ‘referral clinics’ from where the patients are often referred to city hospitals. The satellite hospitals presently cater to pregnant women who do not require C-section surgeries for delivery. In case of C-section surgeries, the patients need to travel to the city.
