Amritsar, June 1
Voice of Amritsar (VOA), an NGO, that has been running a campaign to provide clothes and necessary items of daily use to those living in slum areas of the city today carried out another round of voluntary distribution at Gurdwara Sarab Sanjhi Gurbani in Housing Board colony, Ranjit Avenue.
Volunteers of the NGO are arranging clothes, school bags, books, medicines and other household items through voluntary donations from residents under their campaign — Joy of Giving.
The turnout at the venue was enough to tell the impact of the campaign. Residents of Sanjay Gandhi colony and its adjoining slum area were covered during the activity.
“People thronged the gurdwara premises to get items. Children and youngsters were present in large numbers,” said Neeta Mehra, the campaign spearhead.
It was the second outing of the NGO under its campaign. The first one was organised at Fatapur slums last month.
“Voice of Amritsar will always remain ahead in all such activities for the needy people. It will act as a bridge between the underprivileged people and more privileged ones,” said Dr Jaspreet Grover, a member of the NGO.
Seenu Arora, president of the NGO, said the NGO plans to take its campaign to all slums of Amritsar so that maximum people can avail its benefit. Langar and tea were served to the visitors after the campaign.
“We urge the residents to come forward with their donations and also suggest areas where more needy people can be helped through such an effort,” said Narinder Dhillon, a volunteer of the NGO.
