Amritsar, July 2
A total of 49,809 children under the age of five years were administered polio drops on the first day of the three-day polio immunisation drive here today. The drive was inaugurated by Lok Sabha member Gurjit Singh Aujla by administering drops to children at the Urban Primary Health Centre in Ranjit Avenue.
Earlier, an auto-rickshaw rally to create awareness about the event was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Dr Pardeep Chawla. He said the rally would spread the message about the drive in all areas of the city. Aujla appealed to the people to cooperate with the visiting teams and get their children immunised.
Dr Chawla said that 1,700 employees and volunteers were participating in the drive. He said during the remaining two days, the teams would visit nearly 2.27 lakh homes to offer immunisation drops.
