Amritsar, July 16
During a visit to Dhusi Bandh near Ravi river in Ajnala, Member of Parliament Gurjit Singh Aujla asked farmers to put in a written request for providing boats with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
The farmers had apprised the MP of the problem faced by them in tilling their lands across the river in the absence of any bridge.
The MP said he would pursue the matter with the district administration.
The villages along the river often face problem during monsoon as the water level increases.
Aujla said officials of the district administration were continuously monitoring the situation.
He said as per the current status, the water level is below the danger mark.
“The administration has made all arrangements. It would be ensured that the farmers don’t have to suffer losses in case the water level rises,” said Aujla.
The residents also apprised the MP of other problems such as lack of educational and health institutions in the region.
Aujla said a detailed report about the problems of the border area residents along the Ravi river would be prepared.
