Amritsar, August 4
The authorities conducted an anti-hijack mock drill at Shri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here yesterday. As many as 160 security personnel jointly conducted the drill. An airplane of the Indian Air Force was also used in the drill. The mock drill started at around 4 pm and continued till late evening.
Senior officials of the airport, district administration and the local police were present. The drill began when the airport security flashed a message that a plane had been hijacked by armed men. Security agencies immediately cordoned off the airport.
“The mock drill was organised in order to check the readiness of the anti-hijacking squads, security agencies, intelligence agencies and the police,” said an airport official.
