Amritsar, June 10

The Division B police station has arrested a youth for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl. He was identified as Ranjit Singh alias Jit of Drumma Wala Bazaar. A case under Section 376, IPC, and Section 5 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012, was registered.
The father of the victim stated that he and his wife had gone outside their home, leaving their two children including the victim and the accused behind. He said when they came back, they found the accused raping their daughter.
Seeing them, the accused tried to flee towards his house. The family chased him and caught hold of him. They handed him over to the police. The victim told her family that the accused used to rape her earlier also.
Meanwhile, in another incident, the Gate Hakima police arrested Manish Devgan of Jawahar Nagar and Gobind Singh of Bharariwal for allegedly molesting a teenage girl, a student of Class XI.
The victim stated to the police that she lived with her cousin and his wife.
The accused used to visit her neighbour Mukhtiar Singh’s residence. She alleged that the accused has been making obscene gestures to her for the past two months. However, she did not tell anybody about this for the fear of insult. She alleged that on May 31, when she was waiting for an auto rickshaw on Jhabal Road, Manish came there, molested her and threatened her that if she did not enter into friendly relations with him, he will abduct her. Thereafter, they fled from the scene.
The police have registered a case under Sections 354, 354-A, 506 and 34, IPC, and Section 8 of the POCSO Act.
