MC employees await salaries in Amritsar

MC employees have been waiting for the release of Rs 4 crore by the state government so that the civic body may release release their salaries. Navjot Singh Sidhu, Minister for Local Bodies, had assured them to release the funds till Friday. Though no official confirmed the receipt, the employees’ union claimed that the civic body had received Rs 4.5 crore in the evening.

Harjinder Singh Walia, president of the Sanji Sangharsh Committee, said, “We are very much confident that the funds will be transferred to the MC accounts soon. Sidhu has assured us for the same.”

Meanwhile, Surinder Tonna of Sanjha Sangharsh Morcha said permanent solution was needed. The government has to allocate separate funds for the salaries of employees.

The employees, led by Sanjhi Sangharsh Committee, had observed strike for 22 years over delay in payment of salaries. They called off the strike Navjot Singh Sidhu assured them to resolve their grievances.
