Mafia still active, says ex-Congress leader in Amritsar

Amritsar, July 26

Mandeep Singh Manna, former member of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), today said the mafia that flourished during the SAD-BJP regime was active in the Congress rule as well. He questioned Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu over the ongoing “illegal” constructions in the city.

Addressing a press conference, Manna said the mafia had been constructing illegal buildings in the city violating the norms. The former local bodies minister allotted several plots to his near and dear ones violating the rules.

According to Manna, the former minister started construction works without taking no objection certificates (NOCs) from the airport, fire brigade and mining authorities. The allotment of plots, which have been made under the influence of the former minister, should be cancelled by the Deputy Commissioner (DC).

“Navjot Singh Sidhu used to say that he would expose the scams of the SAD-BJP after the poll victory. Sidhu is an honest man but why he is not taking action against the corrupt practices,” he questioned.

Manna claimed that he exposed several scams of former minister with documentary proofs a few months ago. “If Sidhu doesn’t take action, I will expose the nexus. Residents had several hopes from the Congress government, but it has failed to curb the mafia rule. Sidhu should take action against the mafia,” he added.
