Amritsar, July 7
In a broad daylight incident, some unidentified miscreants struck at a jewellry shop on Majitha Road and looted 100 gm (10 tola) gold today. However, police officials are suspecting something fishy in the complainant’s story.
The incident took place around 11:40 am. The owner of Seema Jewellers claimed that two youths came at his shop and demanded a silver coin. He gave them the coin and collected the money. They showed wads of money to the goldsmith and asked, “How much gold you have?” The goldsmith took out a small bag made of cloth from his box.
The victim told the police that the accused snatched the bag from his hand and fled from the shop within no time.
On being informed, cops from the Majitha Road police post reached the spot. The police officials suspected that the goldsmith had concocted the story. While investigating the matter, the police collected the CCTV footage of the cameras installed in the shop. However, they were unable to see the footage till the evening. The cops also inquired from the nearby shopkeepers, as no one had witnessed the movement of the robbers.
Moreover, the Civics Body has dug up a pit outside the shops to lay a pipeline.
Sarwan Singh, in charge, Majitha Road police post, said, “We have been investigating the matter. The CCTV cameras are installed in the shop, but the owner is not able to operate the recording. We have called experts. The statements of the owner are quite confusing, so we are investigating the matter from all angles.’ No case was registered till the filling of report. — TNS
