IIM student injured in mishap

The police have booked the driver of the car, identified as Akashdeep Singh. Akashdeep was reportedly drunk. The bus of the IIM was going towards Gumtala side for dropping students to a hostel while the car was coming to the city from Ajnala side. Parvesh Chopra, SHO, Cantonment police station, said a case under Sections 279, 427 and 337 of the IPC and relevant sections under the Motor Vehicle Act was lodged against Akashdeep. TNS
Youth booked for molestation
The Chatiwind police have booked Jagdeep Singh of Jhete Kalan village for allegedly molesting a minor girl of the same village. The victim’s mother told police that her daughter was alone at home when the accused scaled the wall and molested her. Meanwhile, she returned, following which Jagdeep fled the scene. TNS
Opium seized from smuggler
The Special Task Force (STF) has confiscated 5 kg of opium from a smuggler, Kuldeep Singh of Athwal village on Friday. He used to bring the consignment from Madhya Pradesh. STF officials said he used to procure the opium from one Gobind Patidar and sell the same in Batala. The police said he was traveling in a car (PB06X7865) when he was intercepted by them on a tip-off. TNS
Traders discuss problems
Traders, dealers and industrialists discussed their problems at a meeting of the District Excise and Tax Advisory Committee. Members of the committee favoured same quantum of the GST on all kinds of fabrics. Assistant Commissioner (Grievances) Alka Kalia presided over the meeting. She assured them that she would forward their problems to the government. TNS
