The district Health Department has requested the state Health authorities to sanction medical staff for the upcoming Community Health Centre in the city as its building is near completion and department is hopeful of initiating services within three months.
The Health Department had earlier upgraded the Primary Health Centres at Dhab Khatika and Nariangarh into the Community Health Centres. The buildings of the new CHCs too are being upgraded.
Officials of the Health Department said the request for sanctioned staff for the CHC had been made as it would be difficult for the department to spare manpower from the existing staff strength. “The CHC would require specialist doctors, at least four medical officers, staff nurses, paramedics and other staff,” said an official.
The district Health Department is facing shortage of staff at its existing centres as employees often complain of overburdening due to increase in the number of patients over the years. Officials said the government schemes like free and incentivised child delivery schemes, free medicines and many other services have increased the rush of the patients.
Civil Surgeon Dr Pardeep Chawla said, “The Community Health Centres in the city would help in decreasing the rush at the Civil Hospital and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital as patients would be able to get the medical services near their places of residence.”
He said that the department was also planning to add up services at Five Satellite Hospitals on the periphery of the city. He said the request for the staff had been sent well in advance so that by the time buildings get ready they are able to initiate services.
