The city police have booked over 12 persons in two firing cases — one in Ranjit Avenue and the other in Chheharta.
In the first instance, the Civil Lines police arrested Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Basarke village, who allegedly fired in the air after having a scuffle with one Parbhsimran Singh of Karimpura village in Lopoke. The incident occurred yesterday night when they were drinking liquor outside a restaurant in the posh Ranjit Avenue area. According to information, the accused had some arguments and the situation took an ugly turn when Jagdeep took out a pistol and opened fire in the air. Later, he fled the scene.
The police have registered a case against them.
Meanwhile, in another incident, the Chheharta police yesterday booked Jaswant Singh alias Timy of DS Estate at Ghanpur Kale, Mukhtiar Singh of Labh Nagar and Manjit Singh of Kale village. Besides, 10 unknown persons have been named in the FIR for creating a panic by indulging in firing. Some monetary dispute is stated to be the reason behind the incident.
Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Chheharta, told police that the accused borrowed money from him. He said the accused phoned him on Friday night, asking him to meet them to take the money. When he went outside, the accused started thrashing him. They also beat up a PSPCL employee who was repairing a fault nearby and tried to pacify them. The accused also fired in the air before fleeing the spot.
