Amritsar, July 24

The faculty of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) today proceeded on mass casual leave in response to a call given by the All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO). The protest was spearheaded by Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers’ Association (GNDUTA).
The national level protest launched by the AIFUCTO to press upon the government to make public the report of the seventh pay review committee for university and college teachers.
The teachers say there are serious apprehensions that the Central Government is going to reduce its contribution to salaries of university and college teachers from the present 80% to 50% creating a big financial hurdle in the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
Several teachers from universities and colleges of the state are participating in protest march at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
