The city police today claimed to have arrested Suraj Malhotra alias Bhukha of the Gilwali gater area, who is an accomplice of notorious gangster Bobby Malhotra of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang.
Bhukha was on the run for the past one year in connection with the sensational murder of a rival gangster Rahul alias Haria.
He was shot dead in broad daylight close to the Division B and Sultanwind police station by Bobby Malhotra and his accomplices on May 4, 2016.
The police have arrested nine persons including Bobby Malhotra in the case so far.
Hariya was shot dead while his two accomplices were injured in the attack. Malhotra and his accomplices had chased them after the victim along with his friends Bhaga, Vishal, Deepak and Karan came out of a marriage palace on Sultanwind Road after attending a function.
In a statement issued here, Police Commissioner SS Srivastav said on the statement of the victims, the police had booked Bobby, Kattu, Gikki, Shiva, Tamba, Suraj, Arun and Mintu besides several unidentified persons in this connection. Police investigations revealed that around 14 persons were involved in the crime. Some of them had conducted a recce about the movements of Hariya.
The police authorities said one of their accomplices was still at large and was expected to be arrested by tomorrow. Suraj had been on the run for the past one year and was living at various places by changing his identity.
He was produced in the court and brought on police remand for further interrogation.
