With the arrest of a person, the Kathunangal police has claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters and recovered a Bullet motorcycle from his possession. His accomplice, who was sitting pillion with him, managed to escape from the spot.
The arrested person was identified as Jagroop Singh, alias Sunny, a resident of Bohrewal Kang village, while his accomplices Bhilla and Kali, both are from Bhangali village and Jeeta is from Bohrewal village. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC has been registered against them.
Investigating officer Amanrjit Singh said he along with his police party had laid a naka near Talwandi Ghumman village when he received a tip off that the accused involved in vehicle lifting were going from Bhangali to Chachowal village to sell a stolen Bullet motorcycle bearing registration No. PB-07-H-2092.
He said when the police party signalled the accused to stop the motorcycle they tried to flee by turning back the two-wheeler. The bike slipped and the accused fell on the road, he added. A youth sitting pillion managed to escape while the accused driving the bike was arrested by the police team. He was identified as Jagroop Singh.
Investigation revealed that Bhilla was the kingpin of the gang. The court has sent Jagroop to judicial remand while raids are on to arrest the remaining accused.
