Amritsar, June 11
While stealing of vehicles, especially two-wheelers, is rampant in the city, the police have found a novel way to reduce the crime by clubbing several cases into a single FIR.
This creates of lot of problems for the victims to claim their insurance. Yesterday, the Sadar police clubbed four vehicle lifting cases in a single FIR. According to information, three bikes and a scooter were stolen from different areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station.
A police official said as per the criminal procedure code, if the police suspect the involvement of a similar gang in the incident, it could club these cases in one FIR.
Sandeep Gorsi, a leading advocate, said such practices lead to the undue harassment of victims as they face a lot of difficulties in claiming the insurance. — TNS
