The Kotwali police have arrested four persons including a woman on charges of theft. The accused were active on the Golden Temple premises and used to steal belongings of devotees. They also stole money by indulging in pick-pocketing.
Those arrested were identified as Sandeep Kumar alias Laddi of Malak Nangal village, Mandeep Singh alias Manta of Kot Baba Deep Singh, near Sodal temple in Jalandhar, Rakesh Kumar of Sultanwind village and Pallavi Kumar of Dashmesh Nagar, near the Jaura Phatak area.
The police recovered two mobile phones from the possession of Sandeep and Mandeep while a wallet containing Rs 1,000 cash and other documents was recovered from Rakesh and Pallavi. Separate cases under Sections 379 and 411, IPC, were registered against them, said the police authorities.
According to the police, two devotees, Pardeep Kumar and Gurmeet Singh, had lodged separate complaints with the police, stating that they were standing in a queue at Darbar Sahib when the accused who were standing behind them stole their belongings.
Visitors coming to Golden Temple are generally an easy target for anti-social elements.
