The Jandiala police have booked Rajinder Singh, driver of Fortuner involved in a road mishap on the national highway on Sunday, on charges of culpable homicide. Though he has not been arrested till now, as he also sustained injuries in the road mishap.
Three persons had lost their lives while five others were injured in the accident. Those killed were identified as Ritesh Arora, his mother Kalpana Arora and Naveen Malhotra, all residents of Delhi. Ritesh was driving the vehicle, an SUV. The injured include Sheetal Arora, wife of Ritesh Arora, Priyanka Malhotra, wife of Naveen Malhotra, and two children, Pranav and Kirti. They were returning to Delhi after visiting the holy city.
Jaswant Singh, investigating officer, said a case under Sections 304, 427 and 279 of the IPC had been registered against Rajinder Singh who was also injured in the accident. He said investigations revealed that he was driving Fortuner at a very high speed and therefore lost control. After hitting the road divider, the vehicle toppled over on the other side of the road and collided with another SUV going towards the Jalandhar side in which the victims were travelling.
The incident occurred near the Coca Cola factory in Jandiala on NH 1. Sheetal Arora, complainant in the case, alleged that the accused was in an inebriated condition, which led to the accident.
