Firing over property dispute in Amritsar


Amritsar: The Sultanwind police have booked several persons for reportedly firing in air. A property dispute is stated to be reason behind the incident. Among those booked include Pargat Singh of Lamba village, Aggarwal and several other unidentified persons. Complainant Jasbir Singh said the accused wanted to grab his plot. “They accused tried to demolish the boundary walls of my plot on Friday. When I opposed, they opened fire in the air. They fled after people started gathering at the spot,” he added. TNS

Maintenance work at shrine

The interpretation centre at  Golden Temple plaza would remain closed for public viewing from July 24 to July 31 for maintenance work, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha in a statement issued on Saturday. He said other works, like housekeeping, security and technical, related to the interpretation centre and heritage street, would continue during that period. TNS

11 buildings sealed

The building wing of the Municipal Corporation sealed 11 under construction buildings near Golden Temple on Saturday. A team led by MC officials Lakhbir Singh and Jasdev Singh along with police personnel identified and sealed 11 buildings being constructed illegally. Most of the buildings were hotels. TNS

The auditions for The Great India Laughter Challenge will be held at 11 am at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Police Lines, tomorrow. Twelve years after giving India the first comedy show, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge is back, and Akshay Kumar will be seen as the super boss on the show. TNS

House burgled

A house in Gate Hakima was burgled on Friday. Complainant Dev Raj Batra told police that he went to a market nearby and found the locks of the house broken upon returning. He said three silver glasses, three bowls of silver, a sliver statue of goddess Laxmi, Ganesh, 60 silver coins weighing 1 kg, gold earrings and Rs 1.8 lakh missing. The police have registered the case. TNS
DAV win U-19 cricket league 
DAV Senior Secondary School, Hathi Gate, defeated Amandeep Cricket Academy (ACA) team-1 in the final of Under-19 Premium Cricket League on Saturday. The DAV team won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 163 runs in 40 overs. The ACA team managed to score 117 runs only. Rahul Kashyap of DAV was declared man of the series and man of The match. TNS
