Panic gripped Dashmesh Nagar area here today when a group of armed persons opened fire over a petty issue of car parking in a street. A woman, Sukhwinder Kaur, wife of Manjit Singh, sustained splinter injuries in the firing.
The Chheharta police have registered a case against three persons — Kushal Anand and his two sons Akash and Gagan, all residents of same area for attempt to murder and under Arms Act. No arrest has been made so far as the accused are on the run. The matter is under investigation.
According to information, Manjit Singh had to take his scooter out, but he couldn’t as Kushal Anand’s car was parked in the street in a “wrong” manner. He knocked at the door of Anand’s house and complained about it, but his “two sons entered a verbal duel” with him. They allegedly took out firearms and opened fire at him.
Manjit had a narrow escape and he ran into his house to save himself. He said the accused called their accomplices, who arrived at the scene in no time with fire weapons. They fire indiscriminately at the residence of the complainant. Manjit also fired in the air with his licensed weapon, following which the accused fled.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), City-II, Gautam Singhal along with ACP (West) Vishaljit Singh and Chheharta SHO Ravinderpal Singh reached the spot after receiving the information. Manjit claimed that around 40 rounds were fired by the culprits in which Sukhwinder Kaur was injured.Ravinderpal said around 15 bullets were fired during the incident. He said a case under Sections 307, 148 and 149 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act had been registered against Kushal, Gagan and Akash. He said Manjit had used his licensed weapon, but the legality of fire weapons used by the accused was being ascertained.
