Amritsar, July 31

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union minister, today said farmers in the state were suffering due to the state government’s “apathy”. They visited the Golden Temple complex to take part in the bhog of Akhand Path.

Talking to mediapersons, Sukhbir said he had gone to Terah Kalan village to meet the family members of farmer Major Singh who ended his life and his suicide note depicted how the Congress deviated from its poll promises. “In his suicide note, he mentioned that his family members voted for Capt Amarinder Singh with a hope that his loan dues would be waived off. But nothing such happened and he was compelled to commit suicide. The Congress has failed drastically to keep its promises,” he said.

Commenting on Local Bodies and Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, he said, “Laughing in comedy programmes will not ensure welfare of people. Whatever was in the pipeline for the people’s welfare in our time has been disrupted by him. Streetlights are defunct, sanitation is in a shambles and law and order situation is deteriorating. We raised the heritage street with utmost integrity and dedication, but now it is almost grimed due to lack of maintenance.” — TNS
