The Zamhoori Kisan Sabha (ZKS) today started its three-day dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, demanding the fulfillment of its demands that include debt waiver for farmers. Farmers from other districts too were present at the protest site.

Satnam Singh Ajnala, state president of the ZKS, while addressing the gathering, flayed the state government, led by Capt Amrinder Singh, for its “failure” to fulfill the poll promises made to farmers and other sections. “We have been demanding waiver of loan for farmers holding up to 10 acres of land,” he said.

Other demands of the members of the organisation include survival of the Co-Operative Sugar Mill at Sheron, compensation of Rs 30,000 per acre to farmers whose crops have been damaged by floods in the state and the start of paddy procurement from the grain markets soon.
