The district administration organised an event as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign at Saroop Rani Government College for Women today. The administration has chalked out various programmes during the campaign from October 9 to October 14.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said the objective of the campaign was to offer equal opportunities to girls.
Sangha said women could play an important role in empowering the next generations.
He said women needed to stand against female foeticide and social discrimination faced by girls.
Addressing students, RTI Commissioner Dr Vinay Kapoor said women needed to become self-reliant to improve their social status.
The speakers on this occasion stressed the need for the implementation of laws pertaining to the safety of women.
The programme was attended by SDM Nitin Singla, District Social Welfare Officer Narinder Singh Pannu, Civil Surgeon Narinder Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer Dr Sukhpal Singh and District Education Officer Sunita Kiran.
