An elderly woman was strangled to death by unknown robbers in Kamboh village in the Amritsar rural area here on Sunday evening. She was alone at home at the time of the incident.
The 93-year-old deceased was identified as Chanan Kaur. Kanwaljit Kaur, her daughter and the wife of Gurvail Singh of Mohali, stated to the police that she had come to meet her mother at Kamboh village.
She said yesterday after meeting her mother, she went to Chheharta to meet her relatives.
She said when she returned at around 6.45 pm, she found her mother lying in the kitchen. She was strangled by unidentified persons with her ‘dupatta’. It appeared that she was killed by robbers as household items were lying scattered while locks of iron trunks in the kitchen and the bedroom were broken.
Following her statement, the Kamboh police registered a case under Section 302, IPC, against unknown persons.
Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural, said Chanan Kaur had three sons and two daughters. Her sons had already died and she used to live with her grandson in the Kamboh village.
Her one grandson lives in Canada. She used to go to her old house in routine. Her body was found in this old house. He said further investigations were underway and police teams were working on different theories.
