The Municipal Corporation’s drives against the dairies inside the limits of the city is almost ineffective as most of the dairies are still functioning within the MC limits. The officials concerned, however, have been claiming that they are seizing the livestock of dairy traders and issuing the notices regularly.
The health wing of the MC claims to have focused on several villages, including Sultanwind, Verka, Wallah and Kot Khalsa, on the outskirts of the city. As per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, no one can keep even a single cattle inside the civic body limits. But there are more than 200 dairies still function in the city.
The drive against such dairies was started in April and notices were issued to several dairy owners.
Small dairy farmers had accused the MC employees of spared big players.
The owners of big diaries are said to have links with political leaders so civic body officials don’t dare to mess with them.
Now, the MC is not actively running the drive.
Dr Raju Chowan, Municipal Health Officer, said,“We had served notices to a number of diaries across the city under the drive to make the city cattle free. We are lifting animals and shifting them to the cattle yard of the MC. The drive is going on.”
