A doctor and several residents of the Putlighar area have accused an unidentified ASI and his accomplices of allegedly trying to extort money from the doctor.
Parvesh Chopra, SHO, Civil Lines police station, said the police was investigating the case. A video of the incident has gone viral in which the people were seen scuffling with the ASI and his accomplices.
The incident occurred late last evening. The Civil Lines police immediately reached the spot and started investigations. Soon political leaders of different parties including the Congress and the SAD also reached there in support of the doctor.
Dr Vijay Kumar, the complainant, alleged that three persons including an ASI came to his clinic and demanded Rs 2 lakh. They also threatened to implicate him in a false case in case he did not give money to the ASI, he alleged. However, people gathered at his clinic and started making a video. At this, the suspects tried to escape. The people assembled there tried to resist and stop them.
Chopra said investigations were under progress and the ASI was yet to be identified. He said the police might have some information and that is why they raided the spot. But it was all under investigations and the if suspects were found guilty, appropriate action would be taken against them.
