Amritsar, July 27
Taking note of the problem of child begging at various places in the holy city, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha has directed the Child Welfare Department, Red Cross and Child Welfare Council to take strict action against the perpetrators.
The DC, at a meeting with the officials concerned, instructed them to take action against people employing child labourers and parents of the children who send them to beg. He said such acts would not be allowed.
Sangha asked the officials to produce all such children before local court and send them to child care homes. To ensure that the drives to rescue children are regular, the DC asked the officials to submit action taken report with his office every week.
The DC also asked ADC (general) Vikas Heera to act as a nodal officer in this regard and present the monthly review report each month at departmental review meeting. Sangha said that a meeting with NGOs and concerned citizens would be held next week to seek their support.
