The Special Investigating Team (SIT) constituted by the ADGP (crime) to investigate into the Dalit atrocity case today visited the victim’s family at his native Bagga village in Majitha.
The SIT headed by IG (crime) LK Yadav would also investigate into the role of policemen. The victim, Kashmir Singh, and members of his family had alleged that he was kept in illegal detention in the Mattewal police station for three days.
The three-member team recorded the statements of two parties and assured the victims that appropriate action would be taken against the accused in case they were found guilty during the probe. Other members of the team include AIG (crime) Tajinderpal Singh Maur and DSP (crime) Ajay Raj Singh.
The Punjab SC Commission has summoned the ADGP (crime), ASI Avtar Singh and additional SHO, Mattewal police station, where the victim, Kashmir Singh, was allegedly kept in detention, with records and the investigation report.
Former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia had taken up the issue regarding the alleged atrocity on a Dalik Sikh, Kashmir Singh. He was allegedly paraded half naked with his hands tied behind by a Congress worker.
Maur said the role of policemen would also be looked into and, if found guilty, appropriate action would be taken against them. He said the government had taken a serious note of the incident and it would probe it threadbare.
