Amritsar, July 29
With Civil Surgeon Dr Pardeep Chawla reaching superannuation and the post falling vacant, the race is hot up for the position. Dr Chawla will retire on August 31 but the department has not announced his successor so far.
Officials of the department said the government’s move to restrict the age of retirement to 58 years had created confusion as it would impact the appointment on the senior most post of the department in the district.
“If the age is restricted to 58 years, there are many who are in the line but they will be retiring in a month of two. In this situation, the department will prefer to appoint an official who has enough time in his or her retirement,” said an official.
Dr Chawla said he had relinquished the office yesterday as there would be holidays till Monday. He also thanked the employees for supporting him for the better functioning of the department.
