With the splendid performance of women cricketers in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup, city residents as well as budding sportspersons have appreciated the girls in blue and hoped that the feat will be a turning point in the history of women cricket.
The national women cricket team was defeated by England by nine runs in London, shattering the dreams of Indians of lifting the cup and creating history. However, these girls won hearts with their performance.
Simranjit Kaur, a young cricketer, said, “This is a great motivation for many like us. These girls have done us proud. I am sure the women cricket will gain a lot from it.”
Commenting about the last night game, Roma, a cricket coach said, “They gave a tough fight to opponents. However, I feel it was their inexperience which made them lose the match. They were amazing. They have created history. My students are motivated and energised. The national cricket team has given hope to them.”
Not only budding cricketers, but also others have drawn motivation by the magnificient performance. Aryan, a budding swimmer, said, “This performance will raise the bar for all of us. Women cricket will not be looked down upon. Though I am least interested in Cricket, I spared time to watch their clash in the World Cup final.”
